Stages of
The Journey
The Affirming Committee invites you to participate
in a workshop
following worship on
Sunday, March 21st
to look at Homophobia:
The stages; the affect; the reality.
(Lunch/Daycare will be provided)
Why
Does this Matter to Me?
Many Christian denominations in Canada, the US,
and throughout the world have a history of actively denouncing
homosexuality and pronouncing same sex relationships as a sin.
Today, many Christian churches continue these actions. In fact,
many people throughout the world associate Christian churches
as a space where homophobia is tolerated, even celebrated.
Lesbian, Gay Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning (LGBTQ)
people have developed attitudes of fear, resentment, and f
rustration with church life generally, as they do not feel welcome.
As a Christian community it is not enough to assume
that because “we” are OK with homosexuality that this will
be
transparent to others within and outside of our community.
The Affirming Committee is
about actively reflecting on what
we do believe and to ensure that what we believe in regards
to the rights and inclusion of the LGBTQ community
is accurately reflected in how we practice our faith,
how we worship, and what messages
we transmit to the outside world.
Members of a Christian community cannot sit by silently
and assume people will recognize our openness and tolerance
(if that is what we believe) because too many
other voices loudly renounce this inclusion.
So, what does the Affirming Committee
have to do with you?
This is your opportunity to actively reflect on what being
a Christian means to you, and how you would like to ensure
that message is transmitted clearly and openly to others.
Questions? Please
speak with a member of the Committee:
Emily Frank, Robin
Little, Cindy Casey, Jenn Owers, Lysanne Bullen, Janis Morrow, Kathy
Fairbairn, Roger Snelling or Evelyn Walker.

 Sound
System
Campaign
Testing…Testing…
Can You Hear Me Now?
For many years and from many different pew locations there have been
repeated concerns
and complaints over our Sound System including its inability
to link it with newer technology for presentations, concerts,
events (such as Philippine Delegation, Montreal & Ottawa Conference
Ordination Service), weddings, funerals and memorial services,
as well as our regular Sunday morning worship.
A number of groups, individuals and committees have considered
this issue so that all the different voices may be heard:
voices of children and adults, speakers and singers,
worship leaders and puppet show animators.
Additionally, last year alone we spent $532.76 having the
system readjusted on four different occasions in order for it to
work
to the best of its ability - occasionally not working at all!
We are pleased to announce that the Official Board has
approved a project for a new system provided
the funds are raised in advance of its installation.
As this is not part of our regular budget,
we are asking everyone
to consider how they may best be able
to support this project
financially.
Donations large or small, immediate or post-dated,
by cheque or cash, in memory of or just because of,
will all be gratefully received.
Additionally, if you have a fundraising idea for this
particular project, please let us know.
All donations will be
added to your 2010 tax receipt.
We gratefully acknowledge
the donations of:
Ed Goralcyzk; Evelyn
& Lorne Walker; Barbara Tate;
Betty Frechette; Beryl Ball; Maryse Barbeau; Wallace Beardsell;
Irma Coffin; & Dave & Rosemary Shurtleff who have helped
us raise $2,700.00 to date!!

The

MONTH of MARCH
We invite you to come and discover France’s Burgundy
and Champagne regions through the eyes of
Rita De Ruysscher,
long time Beaconsfield resident, watercolour artist,
and member of the Beaconsfield Artists’ Association.
Her works will be displayed until the end of March, with an
artist’s reception on Friday,
March 12th, from 7PM to 9PM.
Rita is pleased to share with you her depictions of two
of her favourite regions of France, showcasing some of their
architecture, landscapes and main activity, wine production.
This exhibit features 15 of her works.
Even though she is a translator by profession,
Rita has always loved art, and decided to pursue
her love of drawing and painting.
Some of her landscapes are rendered in soft,
subdued colours to translate a feeling of calm and peace,
while her floral and leaf subjects are rendered in more vibrant
and strong colours, to depict nature’s life force.
She invites you to
come and meet her at the Gallery
on March
12th, from 7PM to
9PM.
Gallery hours are: Mon-Thurs
9am-3pm;
Sundays 11am-1pm
